MEET THE FOUNDER

Jason Minghe XueFounder of Recyterra

Jason founded Recyterra as a high school student to make local waste and recycling systems easier to understand.

A local question.
A wider perspective.

Jason’s work is guided by a simple question: what happens to waste after it leaves our sight? His experience with a recycling fine in New Jersey shaped his interest in how sorting rules are communicated and how collection systems work in practice.

His fieldwork includes volunteer observation and facility visits in New Jersey, and an interview with a recycling-station manager in Dushanzi, Xinjiang. Recyterra’s photographs document collection points, recycling facilities, and everyday disposal practices across Xinjiang, Hong Kong, New Jersey, Beijing, Singapore, and Bangkok.

Through Recyterra, Jason shares these observations in a free, noncommercial resource. His goal is to help people understand the systems behind everyday waste disposal, compare approaches across communities, and identify practical opportunities for improvement.
